Teacher Alison

Teacher and School Administrator

Hi, I'm Alison de Geus, I am an Early Childhood Education Administrator/ Pedigogista. I have been creating and facilitating innovative learning environments for young children for over 20 years.

As an Educator, the role I strive to emulate most is supportive Facilitator. Creating a culture of creativity and optimism. As this facilitator, it is my hope to foster a life-long joy of learning in my students, in turn molding engaged, creative and thoughtful adults.

I believe teaching and learning are a collaborative process with many players. Children look to their family, friends, peers, teachers and community for guidance and support. It is my role as an educator to bring together all these rich resources for the benefit of the children in my care.

“It takes a village to raise a child.”

-African Proverb

My pedagogical methods closely align with Italy's Reggio Emilia Approach and Project-Based Educational Methods. As an artist, I have experience creating art installations and provocations that engage and inspire discussions and ideas. Over the years, I've imbued this sensibility into my classrooms. It has enriched my learning environments in exciting and surprising ways.

Through roundtables, conferences and courses in Italy, I have found art to be central to creating inviting learning environments as well as a learner's expression of ideas, knowledge and growth.

Observation and Documentation of this growth also informs my design of future learning spaces. It is a reciprocal relationship.
